Your Hwb is a social enterprise focused on getting local people to “Go Local”

We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) focused on encouraging local residents to use, buy, shop and stay local. Going local is proven to generate a positive boost to local enterprises and communities.

We think that there is so much to be proud of within our local area (we’re based in Llanfairfechan in Conwy, North Wales). Wherever possible, we try to encourage people to make use of the businesses, products , services and activities that are right on their doorstep. It benefits the local economy, gets people talking and brings communities together. There are no losers in this simple equation.

We are  a social enterprise and a Community Interest Company and we put a minimum of 20% of profit back into local community projects.

Your Hwb is owned and run by Cathy Heavers and Catherine Hardiman. We are two working mums and between us, we bring 50+ years of professional commercial experience to the table. We have worked for a range of organisations from start-ups, not-for-profits to blue chip companies. We’ve built up a wealth of valuable business and organisational skills. We both moved to Llanfairfechan with young families within the last five years and became friends at the school gate.

Your Hwb is a story of many strands. Loving where we live, flexible working, great ideas, young families, walks on the beach and many, many hours planning, talking and doing. All focused on getting our business up and running. And Your Hwb works: it drives up business, prompts people to start talking, working together, having fun together and getting things done. We do good business well.

More about Your Hwb

We love where we live. With young families, we have one eye on the future and want where you live to be a thriving and entrepreneurial environment. Your Hwb aims to fill what we perceived to be a clear gap in the local market. There is not enough focus on supporting small businesses and the benefits that going local bring to a community. We bring that focus by offering support to enterprises within our local communities. We help local businesses both small and large, groups, clubs and events to promote themselves to local audiences all-year-round.

One of our key aims was to create a go-to, one-stop community resource with lots of handy, useful information in one place – a really useful community handbook.  In them we provide essential local community information for free, made possible through the generous support of local advertisers and we make sure our prices as low as possible, making it affordable for the smallest of micro-businesses to take part.

Our Publications

Your Hwb launched its first Community Handbook in June 2015. This was delivered free-of-charge to every household in Llanfairfechan and Abergwyngregyn and provided a single, reliable source of local information for local residents, visitors and tourists. It was warmly welcomed and we received some wonderful feedback and comments from readers and advertisers alike. Many advertisers saw a boost in business from advertising with us and people started talking about Your Hwb.

Its second edition was published in June 2016 – bigger and better, and again it was well received. And in partnership with Penmaenmawr Town Council and The Penmaenmawr Eye / Y Llygad, we also published our first edition of Your Hwb Penmaenmawr in October 2016; this spans Penmaenmawr, Dwygyfylchi and Capelulo creates a combined Your Hwb distribution to over 4,000 households along this part of the North Wales coast.

Currently produced annually as a high-quality A5 directory (print and digital editions are available), Your Hwb is a professional, attractive and very affordable way for local enterprises to boost their profile to local residents. They can advertise in English, Welsh or both languages and we provide a well-priced graphic design service to support advertisers who need help designing their advertisement.

Your Hwb has now launched online business and events listings again with the same local and affordable focus. Along with our community handbooks we offer a multi-channel choice of advertising and promotional options to local enterprises, groups and clubs who want to appeal to a local audience. Contact us for more information – we’d be delighted to talk with you.
