Social Enterprise

Explaining just what makes a social enterprise tick can be a challenge. That’s because for many, it is a new term. In essence, social enterprises do good business in a good way.

With a little help from Social Enterprise UK, here’s a summary of just what a social enterprise is….

Social enterprises are businesses that trade to tackle social problems, improve communities, people’s life chances, or the environment.

They make their money from selling goods and services in the open market, but they reinvest their profits back into the business or the local community. And so when they profit, society profits.

And that neatly sums up what Your Hwb is all about

We focus on encouraging local residents to use, buy, shop and stay local. Going local is proven to generate a positive boost to local enterprises and communities.

We sell very affordable advertising to local businesses, small or large, through our handbooks and website. We’ve made our pricing cost-effective for even the smallest of one-man-bands with prices starting from as little as £25 for a whole year which is less than one pound a week.

The funds we raise from local advertising then fund free community pages and articles in our handbooks and website, focused on delivering really useful information to local people. We also use these pages to shine a spotlight on particular local businesses, local events, encourage volunteering within the community. We focus on clubs and societies which deliver community cohesiveness and highlight things to do locally than perhaps you, as a local resident, might not be aware of. And more.

Meeting our social enterprise status

With a more formal focus which shows how we meet our social enterprise status, the following points are directly relevant to Your Hwb:

  • We have a clear social mission. We use our skills and experience to give a boost to our local community, helping businesses, groups, clubs and residents work more closely together.
  • We generate the majority of our income through trade
  • We reinvest the majority of our profits
  • We are autonomous
  • We are accountable and transparent

If you would like to know more about how Your Hwb works, why we set it up as a social enterprise, and how you can work with us, do get in touch. We would be delighted to talk to you.

On a recent walk from Penmaenmawr to Abergwyngregyn, we called into the Village Inn. May I say what a superb meal. We picked up a copy of Your Hwb. What a great idea, please keep up the good work.
